Purpose and Scope:
Holy Family Church is seeking a qualified and committed Sunday Organist. The purpose of this
position is to provide excellent music and accompaniment for Masses at Holy Family Parish in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on our historic Hook & Hastings Pipe Organ. This position is part
time, 10 hours per week.
Reports To: Director of Music
Job Classification: Non-exempt, Part Time (10 hours per week)
Salary: $19,250.00
Specific Duties/Responsibilities:
● Serve as the Organist for Sunday Masses (9am & 11am), Christmas Masses, & Holy
Week Masses,
● Demonstrate proficiency on the organ for all liturgies through accompaniment, repertoire,
and improvisation,
● Provide prelude and postlude music for Masses,
● Rehearse with paid cantors one hour prior to Masses.
Qualifications/Skills:
● Bachelor’s Degree in Music or commensurate experience (degree or coursework in Organ Performance or Sacred Music preferred),
● Minimum of two years of liturgical music experience,
● Practicing Catholic preferred but must have the ability to respect and not be in conflict with the mission, moral and social teachings, doctrines, and laws of the Roman Catholic faith,
● Ability to interact and collaborate with all staff in a professional and courteous manner.

Director of Music and Coordinator of Liturgy - St. Jude Church - Chalfont, PA
Saint Jude Roman Catholic Church announces the opening of the full-time position of
Director of Music and Coordinator of Liturgy. The Director of Music and Coordinator of
Liturgy will be responsible for music associated with worship, religious education, social
ministry and evangelization in the parish. This person provides for the development and
implementation of the liturgical music program on a weekly basis. This includes weekend
liturgies, weddings and funerals, and other special liturgies. The Director of Music and
Coordinator of Liturgy will direct the adult choir, accompany on the keyboard/organ, recruit
and train cantors, along with the development of additional music ministries. The person
prepares the master liturgical calendars in conjunction with parish staff and ministries,
prepares the weekly liturgy and serves as a resource person for the coordinators of the various
liturgical ministries. Other key responsibilities will be to attend parish liturgical committee
meetings, foster the talents and commitment of the parish’s volunteer musicians, schedule
cantors and accompanists, and develop a long-range plan for expanding and enhancing the
liturgical music program. A minimum Bachelor’s degree in music or sufficient equivalent
experience with strong recommendations from those who know the candidate’s skills directly

of Music Ministries. You will play a vital role in enhancing the spiritual experience of our liturgies through the power of music. Your pool of volunteers includes a talented choir, contemporary

Primary responsibility: Organist and Choir Director
– Planning, coordinating, conducting and accompanying choir Masses at 11:30 Sunday and special liturgical events, including Confirmation, First Communion, Triduum, and Christmas Eve/Day.
– Select appropriate hymn, psalms and choral arrangements that align with the liturgical calendar
– Schedule cantors for both 11:30 and 5 pm Saturday Masses
– Conduct rehearsals with the choir, instrumentalists and cantors to ensure a high standard of musical performance
Coordinator for other Masses: (5 pm Saturday and 9:30 Am Sunday)
– Planning, coordinating, conducting and accompanying or scheduling an organist/pianist for the 5 pm Saturday Masses and all Holy Days of Obligation, as well as special liturgical events, including Forty Hours.
– Schedule cantors and possibly accompanists for 5 pm masses and special liturgical events.
– Coordinate the contemporary group to ensure a full complement of musicians at the 9:30 mass, including a pianist.
Administrative Duties
– Organize, prepare and file all choral music, accompaniment binders and cantor binders for the mass.
– Attend staff meetings and collaborate with clergy and other staff to create a cohesive liturgical experience
– Stay updated on current trends and developments in Catholic liturgical music, incorporating new repertoires and new styles when appropriate
– Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment, encouraging the participation of all members of the congregation in the music ministry
Qualifications:
– Excellent proficiency in playing both piano and organ, with prior experience in choir directing
– comfortable with email communication and scheduling; Finale or music software programs a plus.
– A deep understanding and appreciation of Catholic liturgy and the role of music in worship.
– Strong knowledge of Catholic hymnody, psalmody and liturgical music traditions
– Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with clergy, musicians and parishioners

Job Description: The position is full-time with benefits. The ideal candidate would have a degree in music education or a background in music. The candidate should also be proficient at playing piano. The music teacher would teach one music class a week to PreK 3 to Grade 8 and have a classroom aid in their music classes for grades PreK to Grade 4. The teacher would be responsible for a Christmas and Spring Program. Other responsibilities would include providing music for school masses with the school choir and working with grade level teachers in integrating music across the school curriculums. The Children’s Choir program currently has two ensembles that are active September through May. (They may be consolidated into one ensemble if necessary)
Cherub Choir, Grades 1-3
Rehearsals are Mondays, 4:30-5:15pm
Youth Choir, Grades 4-8
Rehearsals are Mondays, 5:30-6:15pm
Both ensembles sing at Sunday Mass once a month, First Holy Eucharist, and perform in the annual Christmas Concert.
This is a part-time position for approximately 5 hours / week. Saint Andrew parish adheres to Archdiocesan guidelines in regard to safe environment.
Key Responsibilities
· Work with the Director of Music and music staff to develop a dynamic, inviting weekly children’s music ministry that is in line with Catholic music directives.
· Help to recruit and support children for weekly music education, development and fellowship.
· Direct and supervise weekly rehearsals, and in presenting music offerings at Sunday Mass and special events.
· Engage children in relevant learning about the liturgy, Church seasons, feasts, and other aspects of the faith throughout the year.
· Research and plan developmentally and liturgically appropriate anthems.
· Help to coordinate parent volunteers at rehearsals, Mass, and concerts.
· Communicate effectively with Children’s Choir families.
· Perform administrative duties as assigned including overseeing the maintenance of children’s choir music library and materials.

· Desire and demonstrated ability to work with young children.
· Conducting, teaching, and motivational skills appropriate to the age group.
· Basic keyboard proficiency; knowledge of other musical instruments is a plus.

· Ability to communicate effectively with children and parents.
· Ability to work collaboratively and collegially with staff and volunteer personnel at Saint Andrew’s.
